Everybody Dance Now

Gosh it has been a minute since I have written anything. I don't even know why. Maybe I haven't had anything to say (don't laugh), maybe I'm busy, maybe I'm lazy. Who really cares why? Nobody. Including myself. I actually have lots to say most all the time but, to be honest, I've been working on self-restraint lately (quit laughing).

Remember, I started a journey to becoming the best version of myself I can possibly be. I haven't abandoned the effort and am still plugging right along. Slow and steady with a few detours once in a while. An "opportunity for improvement" for me is being very present in the moment of time between THOUGHT and ACTION. For instance, in my case this means try not to panic and cry when you come home from work and see water POURING out of your ceiling from upstairs. Observe. Feel. Pause. Think. Act.

Or something like that. I'm figuring it out.

Changing the subject, I want to talk about dancing. It's a big subject and everyone I know has an opinion on it. Do you like to dance? All the time or just sometimes? For me, it's just sometimes. Actually, maybe MOST of the time. I do a lot of dancing at home alone. I don't watch much TV but I listen to a lot of music. What would I do without my girl Alexa? She makes it happen for me on the daily. I like to be weird and dance around my house by myself. Sometimes I test out some moves in front of the mirror. That never ever goes the way I want it to. I look so ridiculous and dumb. I don't care. I like it. It brings me joy. I'm a dancing fool.

Some people don't dance at all. Some don't approve of it. It's against their religion. It's provocative. Might put impure thoughts in people's minds. Some believe it leads to chaos. Some don't dance because they feel awkward and self-conscious about it. It's okay. You don't have to dance if you don't want to. Come to think of it, I don't think my Grandparents approved of dancing. I seem to remember that. Could be wrong but I know I never saw them dance. There is no law that says you have to dance although there are laws some places that say you cannot dance. It's literally against the law - a crime. Like in the movie Footloose. That sucks. I kinda feel sorry for those people.

I mean like do the Duggars dance? Y'all know who I'm talking about? That TV family with, according to my son, about 72 kids? I know they have some interesting rules and I'm guessing that there's not much cutting the rug going on at the compound. Come on, Jim Bob, bust a move just one time. Every one of those 72 kids can play the fiddle. I bet they'll play something mild and you and Michelle can break out an innocent jig and not even go straight to hell. In the privacy of your bedroom where nobody will see you. Lord knows there's already been plenty of action in there so what the heck? Do it! Live on the edge! Bust a move, boogie woogie, get down, whatever you want to call it. JUST DANCE!

Recently, I asked my Facebook friends to name songs that make them want to dance. I got so many great comments! It is so interesting how people see dance songs differently. Lots of variety! I will say that the common denominator was that almost all the songs are upbeat, high energy type pieces. Makes sense. There was one submission that I really never thought of as a dance song. Well, not the dancing-around-the-room-like-a-fool kind of song. I would say that this song calls for more of a "horizontal dance" if you get my drift. Ooooh my friend you just told on yourself!! LOL! Nah, I'm just kidding. It's all good.

SO. I compiled the songs into a little playlist on Spotify. Dancing songs. Some people only sent me the name of artists but not names of songs, so those types of things aren't on the list. Some I couldn't find on Spotify and I wasn't in the mood to hunt them down elsewhere. But most of the songs are there in the order that I received them. For your dancing pleasure.

So let's dance y'all. And not only on Fridays. Let's dance a lot. Maybe every day even.

Dance in the kitchen.

Dance in front of the mirror.

Dance around in your dress shirt and socks and sunglasses Risky Business style.

Dance in your chair at your desk.

Dance with your children.

Dance with your dog.

Dance with the one who brung ya.

Dance with your Aunt Peggy.

Dance on your girls trip.

Dance on the beach.

Dance at your wedding.

Dance at everybody's wedding.

Dance during your workout.

Dance in your dreams.

Come on and dance with me.
